OGRe FAQ

What is OGRe?

OGRe is a Online Gaming Registration system written out of a need. As I (Ron McClung) worked for several conventions, I needed an online gaming registration system to work for all of them. With the input of several gamers, I developed a design that worked for most gamers. At the same time, I was self-teaching myself the languages required to write it, so there may still be the occasional bug.

Right now, OGRe is used by Justus Productions (organizers of MACE and mini-mace) and ConCarolinas. OGre is now into version 1.5 and moving into 2.0 which will eventually allow other cons to use it.

Because OGRe uses the same core database between MACE and ConCarolinas, once you ahve an OGRe account, you can use it for either con.

How do I Register for Games?

OGRe is designed with a single central database. Once you have an account in OGRe, you can use that account for any con using the OGRe system (unless they choose to isolate their own copy of the database).

Once you have an account in OGRe, your account is inactive until you register for that particular con.

A user is either ...

(1) not registered for the con and their account is inactive

(2) regsitered for the con and thus their account is active

In order for #2 to happen, ...

Paying through Paypal - At the end of your PayPal transaction, you need to click the link or button that says Return to ConCarolinas web site. That should bring you to the Automatic Activation screen for your account, which allows you to automatically activate your account.

If you do not do that, there is no way OGRe to know you paid for the con registration. OGRe and PayPal are not directly linked and can not be.

If you did pay through Paypal and did not complete your transaction as above describes, then it needs to be activated manually. You need to tell the gaming coordinator under what email you registered in PayPal with and around when you did it. Once that can be verified then your account can be activated.

You will receive an email when you account is activated.

Not Paying through PayPal: If you did not register through PayPal, you need to contact the gaming coordinator stating that fact so he can verify it with registration.

I mailed in my registration. How do I get my OGRe account activated?

OGRe is an online system and easiest if you register online. But if that's not an option for you, then there are a few extra steps that you have to take to activate your registration..

  • We do not want someone registering for games that did not pay for their con registration. So we have to verify that the money is sent. The gaming coordinator is not always aware of the mail-in registrations, as Registration is a separate department usually. Please email the gaming coordinator a week or so after you mailed in your con registration and have him verify it has been received. If it has not been, wait another week and email him again. You need to stay in constant contact with the gaming coordinator to verify your con regsitration has been received.

  • One it has been reecieved and verified, the gaming coordinator can activate your account.

I registered more than one person through PayPal, how do I the others activated?

Another slight problem with PayPal is that there is no easy way to tell how many people you registered using it. The only solution we have is similar to the mail-in solution. Email the gaming coordinator and get him to verify that these people are regsitered. It's important to know also that a UNIQUE email address is required for each person. So please send that along with the names of each person that was registered.

I would like to be an RPGA Judge. Do I have to pay to sign up to be a judge?

No, you do not. We would prefer that you didn't. You need to contact the RPGA coordinator and/or the Gaming Coordinator and one of those two will activate your account.
